Digital Wallet Use and Personal Expenditure among Environmental Engineering StudentsContenido principal del artículo
Introduction: Digital transformation and digital wallets have reshaped payment and consumption habits. Objective: To determine the relationship between digital wallet use and personal expenditure among Environmental Engineering students at Universidad Peruana Unión. Method: A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational census study was conducted with 198 students. A 33-item Likert-scale questionnaire was administered, comprising 21 items on digital wallets and 12 items on personal expenditure. Cronbach's alpha and Spearman's rho were estimated. Results: Content validity was assessed through the judgment of two experts, while internal consistency yielded Cronbach's alpha coefficients of .982 for digital wallet use and .968 for personal expenditure. Spearman's rho analysis showed a positive and statistically significant association between the two variables (ρ=.833; p<.001). Associations were also identified with subsistence expenditure (ρ=.821), academic expenditure (ρ=.753), and discretionary expenditure (ρ=.792), all with p<.001. Conclusions: A strong association exists between the two variables; however, causality cannot be inferred.
